What do I need to bring to a coworking space?

The Old Post Office opened in Jan 2020, and closed after six weeks due to the pandemic, reopening in May 2022. It’s still sort of new, however, coworking spaces are not a new thing. They are new to some people though, especially those of you who have only been working from home or remotely since 2020.

Aside from a few short term contracts with agencies and in-house design studios, I’ve been a freelancer since I left university in 2011. Before I started my own coworking space, I worked from cafes, libraries, coworking spaces, my friends’ houses (and from home of course). I’m used to lugging my laptop around, let’s put it that way.

I’ve put together my list of things you will need to bring, to help those of you who haven’t been before and are new to the concept.

You’ll need:

  • Whatever it is you’re working on/from - whether that’s your laptop, a notebook, and reading materials

  • Headphones (check out the coworking space’s Music to work to playlists) these are essential for if you need to join a videocall, but not essential if you’re fine to go music-free and are okay with some background chatter, depending on who’s in)

  • Any chargers you may need (I’ve got a few random ones for my things, so if you’ve forgotten I might be able to help depending on what it is)

  • A cardigan/layers to take off/on depending on how you’re feeling.

Additional, although not essential:

  • A keyboard and mouse if you would like to borrow a laptop stand (I’ve got three available)

  • Snacks or a packed lunch, depending on when you’re here / and if you’re hungry. (I’ve got plates/cutlery/a microwave/fridge/kettle/toaster and you’re welcome to bring your own food in). More often than not there’s biscuits/fruit in the kitchen and you can help yourself if there is

  • Business cards/a flyer, if you get chatting with someone you might want to stay connected.

I’ll give you the wifi password, let you pick your seat, and I’ll make your first hot drink. After showing you around (there’s only one coworking room, a small kitchen and loo: it’s a very short tour) you can help yourself in the kitchen whenever you want to make a drink. There’s teas and coffees, multiple decaf options available, hot chocolate and squash.

You’re welcome to leave things at the coworking space if you pop out for lunch. I can recommend some fab local places for lunch in Stirchley.

Hopefully that puts your mind at ease if you haven’t been before and aren’t sure what to bring!

Now you’ve read what to bring, why not try it out and book for a half day visit?
