Coworking spaces in South Birmingham

Updated Mon 16 Jan - The Old Post Office coworking space is now 5 days a week!

What I love most about coworking spaces, is the connection they have to their local neighbourhoods and how they bring people together. It’s not just about having somewhere to work, it’s always about the people. Coworking spaces are all different and have their own ways of doing things. Here is my list of coworking spaces local to South Birmingham. Have you tried them all?

The Transfer, Balsall Heath, image by Pete Bradbury

The Transfer, The Old Print Works
498-506 Moseley Road, Balsall Heath, B12 9AH

Situated across the road from Grade II* listed Moseley Road Baths, The Transfer is across the first floor of The Old Print Works, an old industrial heritage building that was vacated in 2009 now run as a creative hub led by a charity.

This coworking space offers incentivised pricing for people who cycle in, and members share pot-luck lunches. More info about The Transfer.

Moseley Exchange
149-153 Alcester Road, Moseley, B13 8JP

Laying claim as Birmingham’s first coworking space, the Moseley Exchange is on Moseley High Street behind the (actual) Post Office.

Moseley Exchange isn’t only coworking, you can get permanent desk space here. I’ve also been to various community art exhibition openings over the years. More info on Moseley Exchange.

Stirchley Baths
2-4 Bournville Lane, Stirchley B30 2JT

Opened in 1908 as a public baths, Stirchley Baths was closed for almost 30 years and brought back into use by a community campaign with Heritage Lottery Funding and support from Birmingham City Council in 2016. Home to classes and community activities including Stirchley Community Market, Stirchley Baths has large meeting rooms for hire, and a coworking space. More info on Stirchley Baths.

Blow Water Cafe (Mondays only)
4B Heathfield Road, Kings Heath, B14 7DB

On Mondays this restaurant/venue opens up as a coworking space, with lunch included in the cost, drinks for sale.

“Blow Water Cafe is a Hong Kong insipired eatery and arts space. We are dedicated to Hong Kong Culture, connecting the far East with Birmingham through the arts and food.”

I couldn’t write a list of South Birmingham coworking spaces without mentioning my own!

The Old Post Office
1533 Pershore Road, Stirchley B30 2JH

Open Mon—Fri, 9am-5pm. The Old Post Office opened properly* in May 2022 on Stirchley High Street. My coworking space is bright, with lots of plants, and a rainbow of reference books for inspiration. Drinks are included, and the coffee is by local roaster Quarterhorse. The tables were handmade especially for the coworking space and mean you can really spread out. I send a weekly newsletter with details about what’s happening locally, if you’re interested in more I can tell you in person. Read more about TOPO.

*it actually opened in early 2020 for six weeks, and closed for two years owing to the pandemic.
