Fat Joy Book Club

We aim for the third Sunday of the month. Next meet up:

Sunday 16 February we will be discussing Neon Roses by Rachel Dawson

Our group is open to new members, though it is essential you read and agree to our community guidelines below. If you’re cool with that - email theoldpostofficestirchley@gmail.com if you’d like the whatsapp link.

Our values/guidelines for the space:

  • We will be using the word fat. In a neutral sense. It’s ok if it doesn’t feel comfortable for you/ that's not how you describe yourself. We’re all in different places on our journey to fat liberation.

  • This is first and foremost a joyous space! That said, we won’t shy away from discussing difficult topics if they come up.

  • We believe in body autonomy - what people choose to do with their bodies is their choice, and we won’t be promoting diet culture in this space.

  • We are explicitly intersectional & open to all - people of colour, queer folks, trans/non-binary folks, disabled and neurodivergent folks and other marginalised groups. We have a zero-tolerance policy for transphobia, racism, anti-Blackness, homophobia, classism, ableism, & body shaming.

  • If you have any access needs, or anything that would help you attend or make you more comfortable, then please let us know. You can find out more about the Old Post Office’s access details, including chair sizes, here: www.theoldpostoffice.space/access

  • This group is open to anyone who identifies Fat. We hate clothes sizing, and as a more universal reference, if you are a UK size 18 or XXL and above, then this space is for you!

  • It’s not a super formal space! You don’t have to have read the whole book, or any of the book! We’ll guide the discussion, so come as you are and be open to what comes up. Also, we won’t always be discussing books - it may be a podcast episode/article/a form of visual media

  • We also have a Google doc for any recommendations which we will be adding to and using to select the monthly reads.
